Siberian Husky Picture

The Siberian Husky is originally a breed of sledding dogs. They are accustomed to being pack leaders. They are strong-willed, independent and stubborn by nature. They are also very active and need a lot of place to run around. If they are not given enough exercise, they tend to be destructive as well.

Thus, training a Siberian Husky is quite different from training any other dog. You will have to be equally strong-willed to match your Husky’s stubbornness.

If you don’t give him a strong and leading command, he will not respect you or obey your command. Moreover, your command should make sense to your Siberian Husky before you expect him to follow it. You need a lot of patience and complete understanding of his temperament before training him. It is therefore a good idea to get to know the traits of a Siberian Husky before you begin to train him otherwise training can be counter-productive. However challenging the task of training a Siberian Husky may be, in the end it is very rewarding. So, it is best to go about the training in the right manner.

See our Siberian Husky Care & Training Guide for more breed specific information.

Here are a few tips for training your Siberian Husky:

1. Start teaching your Siberian Husky as early as possible. All he likes is running. The rest of the obedience class does not matter. Make sure you give him enough physical exercise. 2. Always call your Siberian Husky by name. It will help him learn his name. 3. Make direct eye contact with your dog while giving commands. 4. When he is doing something wrong, scold him there and then so that he knows why he is being scolded. 5. Always eat before you start the obedience class. You will need all the energy at your disposal.

It is quite a challenging task to train a Siberian Husky, but your patience and persistence will pay off in the end. Just make sure you give him lots of love and liver. Keep in mind the special traits of the dog. Don’t train a Siberian Husky to be a guard dog; he is too friendly to go after intruders; he will make friends with them instead.
