Pomeranian Picture Page

Welcome to the Pomeranian Picture Page.

Pomeranians are high-spirited and intelligent dogs that can be trained easily if you understand their temperament. The first thing you need to know about Poms is that they resist housebreaking like many other small dogs. So, be prepared to handle your Pomeranian with lots of patience and perseverance. The solution to effectively potty train your Pomeranian is to begin early on and keep up a planned and prepared training timetable.

While many owners of this delightful little toy dog might feel no need to train them the fact remains that all dogs, of all breeds and mixes, large and small, require obedience training in order to be well behaved. Fortunately, the Pom loves to please his owners and you can train them if you know the knack.

It is relatively easy to train a Pom. They are by nature clean, and they learn housetraining without much effort. Crate-training is a reliable way to house-train and offers so many other benefits to dogs and their owners. When you start with crate training, keep the following tips in mind: buy a crate before you bring the puppy home; show the crate to your puppy on the first day; leave him in his crate for two minutes; remain within his sight and keep talking to him; and give him a toy to play with. Do this many times, increasing the duration gradually. You will have crate-trained your Pom in a single day!

You have to be consistent when you housetrain your dog. You cannot expect your Pom to housetrain himself. You will have to be very alert and attentive while housetraining him. The first few months are crucial since you can teach your dog most of the things during this period. No dog likes to dirty his crate; that is why crate-training and housetraining go hand in hand. Crates are useful tools for housetraining and they make traveling with your dog comfortable for you and your pet. At home, your Pom would love to go into his crate when he wants to rest and relax.

If you plan to take your puppy for a show, you will find the crate very helpful. You need to train your Pomeranian to stay in his crate during the show, especially when he's not busy otherwise. Don’t forget to be there within sight when you start crate-training otherwise he will bring the whole house down with his barking. Give him a toy to play with. It will solve the problem of boredom.
